Become a Guardian Home
We do not believe that puppies or dogs are meant to spend their lives in a kennel. Doodles are social animals that adore their families and want to be with them, participating as a loved family member. By placing them in a loving home environment that will be their forever home from the time they are puppies, we are ensuring their happiness and best start in life. This gives Northwood Doodles the ability to maintain the highest quality care for our doodles by placing them in qualified homes.
Our Guardian Home Program allows for our chosen families to have our “pick of breeding dog” and become part of the process with us. It creates a great bond between us and our Guardians. Once the breeding dog has had her allotted litters, she/he is then spayed/neutered and soul property of the Guardian Family.
Guardian Families are going to be an important part of our program. We will all get to know each other and become a unit as this journey begins. It’s pretty amazing to be a part of bringing in top quality, healthy pups that will make so many families happy.
The Guardian Home puppy is part of the Guardian Home’s Family forever, while the breeding rights are retained by Northwood Doodles for a set amount of time (each situation is slightly different so we prefer to work out specific details with each family on an individual basis.)
Once the Guardian Dog has completed his/her breeding career, he/she will be spayed/neutered at Northwood Doodles expense, and the dog will remain a forever pet of their Guardian Family!
From the beginning the dog is a member of the family. We encourage bonding activities, such as taking obedience or other dog classes with you breeding dog. Like any well-loved pet, they need good exercise and lots of play. Some families can join therapy dog programs and visit hospitals, hospice, schools, and even libraries with their breeder dog.
Guardian Families are responsible for feeding our breeding dogs, Fromm or NutriSource food which is a must. We are feeding the most nutrient based dog food. You are also responsible for training the guardian dog. This means that you are teaching commands, enrolling in at least one training program that teaches basic commands and manners. You are responsible for vaccinations, monthly heart-worm and tick prevention, yearly exams done by a veterinarian, proper fencing of your yard, or walked on a leash at all times.
You as the guardian are also responsible for keeping a breeding dog away from any dog that is not neutered or spayed. This is crucial and will break the contract in its entirety. Our Guardian Family will not have our dogs outside for an extended period of time and they will be strictly indoor pets. You are responsible for the best interests of your Guardian dog.
When the Guardian girl is in season, the Guardian Family is required to contact us immediately. An intact female usually has a heat cycle that will last between 14 and 21 days. During this time, we will need access to her for breeding related appointments. Once she has been bred, she will remain with her Guardian Family until one week before her due date. At that time, the Guardian dog will come back to stay with us throughout her pregnancy. She will be returned once her pups are fully weaned approximately 5-6 weeks later. Guardian Families are welcomed and encouraged to visit with scheduled appointments while their Guardian Dog is here at Northwood Doodles.
The female stays with us for 10-14 days during her heat cycle, to be bred. Then, she returns to whelp (deliver) the puppies a week before they are due, staying with us until the puppies are weaned (about 6-7 weeks total). We work with our Guardian Homes using a simple contract and we provide support and guidance all along the way, staying in contact through the year. At the end of the Guardian Home Family contract, the female dog belongs 100% to the Guardian Family.
Most importantly, we here at Northwood Doodles love our program and we are hoping for many successes. Our Guardian Families will be chosen carefully through an application. In the event of the program not working for the Guardian Families, the breeding dog must be returned to Northwood Doodles and the contract will be voided. Under no circumstance will any dog of Northwood Doodles be re-homed, this will result in a law suit.

Puppy Training

Vigilant K9
Northwood Doodles has partnered with Vigilant K9 for Puppy Training.
Training Philosophy
They believe in training the dog (and human!) in front of us. VK9 does not think training is a one size fits all blanket. They promote balanced reward based training. Meaning the use treats to teach – they access what and how the dog has learned behaviors, access why the dog is having troubles with some commands in various areas – VK9 TROUBLESHOOT behaviors.
Mission
Is to provide you and your dog with up to date training knowledge. To focus on the whole dog and provide a program made specifically for them to thrive living in our world.

Puppy Essentials To Get
Vitamins
On top of feeding the best puppy food, we start all of our puppies on NuVet Vitamins.
Nuvet is a vitamin I have started giving to the puppies. This vitamin is amazing and will give an immunity booster to your puppy. I will attach information about Nuvet if you want to read through and learn more about it. Here is a link if you want to order. The price is for a 3-month supply.
Kennels
I have started the puppies on kennel training. Midwest puppy kennels make a perfect kennel for training purposes, but any kennel should work. I just prefer these as they have a grid and tray on the bottom just in case they have an accident. I like to start with the 37 x 25 x 26 size, but if you want a little bigger, you can buy the next size up and then add a separator that goes in the middle of the kennel.
Snuggle Puppy
This can be bought on Amazon or at PetSmart. Snuggle Puppy is a puppy you can place in the kennel at night. It has a heartbeat and provides warmth to the puppy. This will help with any separation trouble while sleeping as it will feel like one of his/her littermates.
Brushes
The rakes or dematting combs are good for grooming. I like to use this one from Menards, but any brand will work. This one is a 2 in 1 and has a Rake and a shedding tool on the back.
Flea & Tick
Flea and Tick can’t be applied until after 8 weeks.
We love the Frontline brand while they are under 6 months. After they are 6 months old, we use Bravecto. This is a chewable flea and tick that only needs to be applied once every 3 months. Our dogs use this and we never see any ticks or fleas.
Puppy Beds
They are sleeping on little beds. I put these in the kennel at night, but they are also used to sleeping on them during the day when taking naps. I was recently referred by one of our customers to the website Foggy Doggy. They have amazing puppy beds with adorable patterns on them.
Buddy ID Microchips
I have microchipped the puppies. We use Buddy ID microchips. Once you get your puppy, you will need to register the microchip under your name. If you happen to forget, don’t worry as they are all registered under me and I will always contact you if I get a call from someone that has scanned one of my puppies and they are lost.
